New Home Siding Boosts Curb Appeal

Smith’s Home Services knows that exterior home renovations are big financial investments. We also believe that caring for the exterior of your home as much as the interior, can be a wise investment that pays dividends for years to come.

Remax Realty conducted research that illustrates how important an attractive home exterior is for getting maximum return on your investment. Some of the findings included the following statistics:

  • 94% of people search for properties online. Since the home’s exterior images are the most prominently featured – an attractive exterior draws more interest.

  • Realtor Magazine discovered that homes with exteriors rated more appealing fetched a 7% higher selling price than those with unappealing, tired exteriors. For a home selling for $500,000 – that’s $35,000 extra.

According to the Journal of Construction, replacing your siding is one of the most effective home exterior improvements you can do with a return on investment of about 80% of what you spend to do the job. The money we pay out comes back to us eventually and in the meantime, our house is protected and we get to enjoy its beauty.

Here’s a home in Niagara (top left) that Smith’s Home Services worked on recently to replace siding that had been damaged in several places by high winds. The home is 35 years old and was built as part of a subdivision where home designs are repeated frequently on all the streets. The home owners wanted to make their home look more custom, less “cookie cutter”.

We left the homeowner with some colour samples and gave them some time to look at them in all lighting, against their brick and roof. We also gave them several computer renderings to help them visualize the final result. (top right). Smith’s Home Services suggested that an accent detail on the gable of their dormer would add a pop of colour. The homeowner found an inspiration image (bottom left) that showed how the toasted almond coloured siding might look with a cedar gable detail. Smith’s Home Services found the cedar and installed it along with the siding. You can see the final result in the bottom right image. The house looks more like a custom design, less tired, and the curb appeal is boosted.
